Your New Year’s Resolution: Practicing Random Acts of Kindness

random acts of kindness

With all the political turmoil, violence, natural disasters and general bad news that we hear about day in and day out, it can be hard to believe that there is any good left in the world.  There is, however, a way to bring a little hope to your corner of the world on a daily basis – and give that hope to others as well.

How?  Through practicing random acts of kindness.

Acts of kindness don’t need to be grand gestures or take a lot of effort or planning on your part.  In fact, the best acts of kindness are found in the small, every day things you can do for someone else.  The best part is you will be just as delighted as the person you are helping!

Here are 10 simple ways you can be kind to others at work or in your everyday encounters:

  1. Smile
  2. Say “Thank You”
  3. Hold the door open for someone
  4. Give a compliment
  5. Send an encouraging email or text
  6. Pay for coffee of the person behind you
  7. Recommend a colleague to a contact
  8. Invite a co-worker to lunch (and pay for it)
  9. Make someone laugh
  10. Let someone in when you’re driving

My challenge to you and myself for 2019 is to practice random acts of kindness at least once a day during the year.  You’ll be surprised at how much it will lift your spirits and encourage those around you as well.
